How Is a Glass Stirring Rod Used?
Students use the rod to dissolve salt, sugar or a stain in a beaker, to mix a reagent into a test sample, and to touch a single drop of solution onto indicator paper or a slide. During filtration the liquid is poured down the rod so that it runs gently into the filter paper instead of splashing. A 300 mm rod is long enough to reach the bottom of a typical beaker or flask. Stir with a gentle circular motion rather than pressing on the base of the vessel and rinse the rod with distilled water so that one solution does not contaminate the next.
Frequently Asked Questions
What size is this glass rod?
It is 6 mm in diameter and 300 mm long, made from clear borosilicate glass.
Can it be used to stir hot solutions?
Yes. The rod is borosilicate glass and is listed as heat resistant and chemical resistant, so it suits warm and hot solutions in routine practicals. As with any glassware, avoid moving it straight from a hot liquid into cold water.
How is this different from the glass rod sold in long lengths?
This item is a ready-to-use borosilicate stirring rod. The other listing, linked below, is solid soda-glass rod supplied in long lengths for labs that cut their own rods.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a borosilicate glassware and lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. These rods are made at JLab’s own works rather than bought in, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order factory-direct and repeat orders come from the same maker. The company is registered under CIN U29309HR2017PTC069123 and holds MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 as a manufacturing enterprise. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Qatar in the Middle East, Cyprus in Southern Europe, Luxembourg in Western Europe, Samoa in Oceania and Tanzania in East Africa. See the JLab lab tenders page for tender supply.
