Fluorescent Liquids

  • A set of permanently mounted vials of liquids which fluoresce brilliantly under ultraviolet light.
  • They illustrate the absorption of energy at one frequency (UV) and the re-radiation of that energy at a different but visible frequency.
  • The salts and dyes included are quinine sulphate, prim line, rhodamine, rhodamine 6G and fluoresce in.
  • Although the amount of dissolved chemical is minute, MSDS forms are included.
  • The light source may be any true ultraviolet lamp; ambient light should be minimized.
  • Viewing is best when the ultraviolet light source is directed away from the viewer and straight at the front side of the vials.
  • The wood frame securely holds the five glass vials of liquid in place.
  • Shown at left are the liquids as they appear in normal classroom lighting.
  • Shown at right are the liquids viewed under ultraviolet lighting.
