What Is the Potometer Used For?
A potometer measures how quickly a cut shoot takes up water, which closely follows the water the leaves lose by transpiration. Cut the shoot and fit it under water so that no air enters the xylem, seal the joints, and let the shoot settle before timing how far the bubble travels.
