What Is the Archimedes Chart Used For?

Archimedes lived in the Greek city of Syracuse in Sicily and is counted among the greatest mathematicians of the ancient world. His principle states that a body wholly or partly immersed in a fluid feels an upward force, or upthrust, equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces — the reason ships float and a stone weighs less in water. The famous story of the king’s crown, in which he is said to have shouted “Eureka!” on stepping into his bath, is told to explain how displacement can reveal whether a crown is pure gold. He also worked out the law of the lever, is credited with the screw pump for raising water, and found the area and volume of a sphere.

The chart sits well in physics lessons on floating, sinking, density and buoyancy, beside an overflow can and spring balance, and in lessons on levers and moments; maths teachers use it when introducing the geometry of circles and spheres. It also brightens a library or corridor gallery of scientists. The listing does not reproduce the chart’s text, so ask JLab for a preview image if you want to check the content before ordering.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Language — English or Hindi.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; other scientist charts can be added.
  • Practical apparatus — an Archimedes principle kit or overflow (eureka) can, if students will verify the principle themselves.
  • Delivery — destination country, port or city, delivery terms and any tender reference.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Archimedes’ principle?
A body immersed in a fluid experiences an upthrust equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces. Students can check it with an overflow can and a spring balance.

Does the chart explain the principle or only his life?
It belongs to the Life Sketch of Scientists series. The listing does not quote its text, so ask JLab for a preview image to see exactly what is covered.

What size and finish does it have?
70 x 100 cm, printed in full colour, laminated on both sides with thick plastic film and fitted with plastic rollers.

Is a Hindi edition available?
Yes. The chart is available in English and Hindi; specify the language in your enquiry.

What should an export enquiry include?
The quantity, language, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, and the tender reference if there is one.

Who supplies the Archimedes Chart?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd), Ambala, Haryana, India, supplies it and quotes directly.
