What Is the Birth Demonstration Model Used For?
During a normal birth the baby’s head has to adapt to the bony birth canal: it engages at the pelvic inlet, descends and flexes, rotates in the mid-pelvis and extends as it passes under the pubic arch. Because the fetal skull on this model can be held at any point along that path, an instructor can stop at each stage and let the class see how the head and the pelvis relate. It is used in ANM, GNM and B.Sc. Nursing midwifery teaching and in obstetrics classes for medical students. It is a teaching model, not a medical device.
