Autoclaving With a Screw Cap
Before the flask goes into an autoclave, unscrew the cap until the threads are disengaged and leave it resting loosely on the neck. A tightly closed flask cannot vent as the air inside expands, and the pressure can distort the plastic or force the cap off. Tighten the cap only once the flask has cooled, so the contents stay sealed until use.
Swirling, Mixing and Storage
The sloping sides let a solution be swirled briskly without slopping over, which is why conical flasks are used for dissolving, mixing and titration. Being polypropylene, this one will not break if knocked off the bench, and the cap turns it into a carry-and-store bottle for solutions made up in advance. Keep it off direct flames; use borosilicate glass where strong heating is needed.
