Testing a Solution for Alkali
Put a strip on a white tile and touch it with a drop of the test solution on a clean glass rod. A change to blue shows the solution is basic. If the strip stays red, the solution is either acidic or neutral, so check it with blue litmus, which turns red only in acid. Use a fresh strip, or a fresh part of one, for each solution.
