How Does It Compare with the JLab Decimal Abacus?
| Abacus | Base | Wires or spikes | Beads | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Game of Place Value (EL-MLE-1781) | Wooden, 20 cm x 7 cm, 18 mm thick | 6 U-shape wires | 9 on each wire | Place value of whole numbers up to lakh |
| Decimal Abacus | Wooden, 15 cm x 4 cm, 18 mm thick | 7 metal spikes, 4 mm thick | 70 beads in 7 colours | Decimal place value |
Choose the Game of Place Value for whole-number place value in the Indian system up to lakh; the Decimal Abacus is the one to pick when the lesson moves on to decimal places.
What Is the Game of Place Value Used For?
Each wire stands for one place: from the right, ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands and lakhs. A student builds a number by moving beads onto each wire, and reads it back digit by digit, so the same digit is seen to be worth more when it sits on a wire further to the left. Nine beads per wire match the digits one to nine; adding one more bead to a full wire means regrouping it as a single bead on the next wire, which is how carrying in addition is introduced.
The abacus is used in primary maths for reading and writing large numbers, expanded form, comparing numbers and simple addition and subtraction with regrouping. Because it is held in the hand, each student can work through examples at their own desk while the teacher demonstrates.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many wires and beads does the Game of Place Value have?
6 U-shape wires with 9 beads on each wire, fixed on a wooden base.
Why does each wire have 9 beads?
A single place can hold only the digits 0 to 9, so nine beads are the most one wire ever needs. When a tenth bead would be needed, students regroup it as one bead on the next wire to the left.
What size is the wooden base?
The base measures 20 cm x 7 cm and is 18 mm thick.
How is it different from the Decimal Abacus?
The Decimal Abacus has a 15 cm x 4 cm wooden base with 7 metal spikes and 70 beads in 7 colours for decimal place value. The Game of Place Value has 6 U-shape wires with 9 beads each for whole numbers up to lakh.
What information is needed for an export quotation?
The quantity, the destination country and port or city, your preferred delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), any packing or labelling needs, and the tender reference if the order is for a tender.
Who manufactures the Game of Place Value?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of maths lab equipment and school science apparatus in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The place value abacus is made at JLab’s own works rather than bought in, so schools, dealers and importers order it factory-direct, every piece is visually checked before dispatch, and repeat orders come from the manufacturer itself. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Singapore in Southeast Asia, Luxembourg in Western Europe, Qatar in the Middle East, Vanuatu in Oceania and Turkmenistan in Central Asia. Tender buyers can see the JLab lab tenders page.
