What Is the Greedy Dog Chart Used For?
The greedy dog is Aesop’s fable of a dog carrying a bone across a stream. Seeing its reflection in the water, it takes it for another dog with a bigger bone, snaps at it, and its own bone falls into the stream. The story is short enough for the youngest classes and carries a clear lesson: wanting more than you need can cost you what you already have.
Primary teachers put the chart up for story time, then ask the class why the dog lost its bone, what it should have done, and when they themselves have wanted more than they needed. The fable also works for role play, for writing the moral in a sentence, and for English or Hindi reading practice from the combined text; schools teaching in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil or Telugu can order the edition in that language. Both faces are laminated, so a quick wipe with a damp cloth removes marks, and the chart lasts longest when stored flat.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Edition — English and Hindi combined, or Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil or Telugu, with the number of each.
- Quantity — at least 10 units in total.
- Display method — the listing does not cover rollers or eyelets; tell us how the chart will be hung.
- Companion titles — for example Fox and the Crow or Grapes are Sour, so a class has a run of fables to work through.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the moral of the Greedy Dog story?
Greed can make you lose what you already have. The dog drops its own bone while trying to grab the one it sees in the water, which makes the point easy for young children to grasp and discuss.
What size is the chart and what is the finish?
The chart is 50 x 75 cm and laminated with thick plastic film on both sides, giving a wipe-clean surface that copes with daily classroom use.
Is the Greedy Dog Chart available in regional languages?
Yes. Besides the standard English and Hindi combined edition, it is available in Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil or Telugu. Specify the edition in your enquiry.
