Getting Steady Readings
Stand the scale on a firm, level bench away from draughts and vibration, and give the reading time to settle after switching on. Weigh samples in a container rather than straight on the platform: note the empty container, add the sample and take the difference. The last digit shows hundredths of a gram, and the total load, container included, must stay within 1000 g. Because the scale turns off after a spell without use, write each reading down before leaving it.
Other Items for Weighing
- Analytical Balance (Digital) — reads to a tenth of a milligram for finer work.
- Weighing Bottles — low-form borosilicate bottles to weigh samples in.
- Spatula — spoon and flat blade for adding powder a little at a time.
Balances and other instruments are in the Chemistry Lab range.
