What Are Mild Steel Retort Rings Used For?
A separating funnel splits two liquids that do not mix, such as oil and water in the class 9 science chapter on separating mixtures, or an organic layer and an aqueous layer in college solvent extraction. The funnel sits in the ring, the boss head clamps the ring to the stand rod at a height that leaves room for a beaker below, and the lower layer is run off through the stopcock. Pick a ring smaller than the widest part of your funnel so it rests securely without slipping through; the same ring can also carry a filter funnel or a wire gauze. The white powder coat protects the steel from bench spills.
