What Is a Pantograph Used For?
A pantograph works on a parallelogram linkage: as one point follows the lines of the original drawing, another point draws the same figure larger or smaller, with the scale fixed by the geometry of the linkage. The copy is geometrically similar to the original, so the instrument is a hands-on way to see enlargement, scale factor and similar figures, topics that run through school geometry and class 10 similar triangles. It is also used to enlarge or reduce maps, plans and outline sketches in geography and drawing lessons.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Size — 60 cm, 75 cm or 90 cm.
- Quantity — the number of pantographs of each size.
- Other drawing instruments — parallel rulers, French curves and service protractors are separate items that can be quoted on the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the pantograph used for?
Enlarging or reducing diagrams, and showing enlargement and similar figures in geometry and drawing lessons.
Which sizes are available?
Three: 60 cm, 75 cm and 90 cm.
How is it packed?
Each pantograph comes in a wooden box.
Why is the copy always similar to the original?
In a pantograph the linkage keeps the fixed pivot, the tracing point and the drawing point in a straight line with a constant ratio of distances, so every length in the copy is changed by the same scale factor.
Who manufactures this pantograph?
JLab — Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of maths lab equipment and drawing and teaching instruments in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The pantograph is made at JLab’s own works, not bought in from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy it factory-direct and reorder from the same manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Luxembourg in Western Europe, Mexico in North America, Kazakhstan in Central Asia, Afghanistan in South Asia and Argentina in South America.
