What Are These Prepared Slides Used For?

Permanent slides give every student a reliable specimen to find, focus and draw. On the plant side, the generalised plant cell suits first lessons on cell structure, the dicot epidermis and stomata slides show the pores and guard cells that control gas exchange, Spirogyra in scalariform conjugation shows the ladder-like tubes formed between two filaments during sexual reproduction, and Volvox shows a colonial green alga carrying daughter colonies. Euglena and Paramecium caudatum introduce single-celled protists, and the planaria slide shows a flatworm, a favourite example when teaching regeneration.

The bacillus, coccus and spirillum slides let students compare the three basic bacterial shapes — rods, spheres and spirals — and the Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Entamoeba histolytica, Trypanosoma and three Plasmodium slides support lessons on disease-causing organisms such as those behind tuberculosis, amoebiasis, sleeping sickness and malaria. Together they cover topics from class 9 (the cell, and why we fall ill) and class 10 (life processes) through class 11 classification and the plant and animal kingdoms to class 12 human health and disease, and they are standard prepared microscope slides for college zoology, botany and microbiology practicals. Bacteria and blood-smear parasites are usually examined with an oil-immersion objective; hold slides by their edges, clean off immersion oil with lens tissue after use, and store them flat in a slide box.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Specimens — list each specimen you need from the table above and the number of packs of 10 for each.
  • Bacteria comparative study — say whether you need the bacillus, coccus and spirillum packs together or only some of them.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; dealers and multi-school buyers often combine several specimens in one order.
  • Storage and viewing — add slide boxes, cover slips or a microscope to the same enquiry if the lab needs them.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of biology teaching supplies and school laboratory equipment, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. These slides are produced at JLab’s own works and are not bought in from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy them factory-direct; packs are checked by eye before dispatch, and repeat orders for further specimens are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Moldova in Eastern Europe, Uzbekistan in Central Asia, Algeria in North Africa, Bangladesh in South Asia and Mongolia in East Asia. Tender buyers can find details on the JLab lab tenders page.
