What Is the Jawaharlal Nehru Chart Used For?
Jawaharlal Nehru worked beside Mahatma Gandhi in the freedom movement, served more than once as President of the Indian National Congress and spent long periods in prison, where he wrote Glimpses of World History and The Discovery of India. He gave the “Tryst with Destiny” speech on the eve of independence and led the country as its first Prime Minister until his death, shaping planned economic development, new scientific and educational institutions and the policy of non-alignment. Pupils meet him in the class 8 history chapter on the national movement and again in class 12 political science on the politics of the early years after independence.
Because Nehru’s birthday is celebrated as Children’s Day, the chart is a natural centrepiece for that day’s assemblies, and it is also used for Independence Day and Republic Day programmes, quiz and speech contests, and history or civics displays. The bilingual text serves English-medium and Hindi-medium classes alike, and the lamination and rollers let it be taken down, rolled and rehung without damage.
