What Is a Size 20 Scalpel Blade Used For?
Size 20 is the first of the larger blades that fit the No. 4 handle. Its outline resembles the familiar No. 10, but the blade is bigger, which helps when a cut runs the length of a larger preserved animal or passes through thicker skin and muscle, where a small blade would need many short strokes. Use it on a dissecting board or tray, fit and remove it with forceps, and discard it into a sharps container once it has been used.
