What Is the Urinary Tract Chart Used For?
The urinary tract runs from the two kidneys, which filter the blood and make urine, through the ureters to the bladder, where urine is stored, and out through the urethra. Because the female urethra is much shorter than the male one, bacteria reach the bladder more easily in women, which is why urinary tract infections are more common in them; an infection of the bladder is cystitis, and one that climbs the ureters to the kidney is pyelonephritis. Stones form when minerals crystallise out of the urine, and a stone or another blockage can obstruct the flow, leaving urine standing (stasis) where it is more easily infected. A chart that puts normal anatomy and these conditions on the same sheet helps students link structure to the problems they will meet in practice.
School students first meet the excretory system in the class 10 science chapter on life processes and again in class 11 biology, but the disease panels make this chart most useful in nursing, paramedical and medical programmes, where the urinary system is studied in physiology and pathology. It is a teaching aid, not a diagnostic reference.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 charts, each sold individually.
- Edition — ask for a photo of the current print, because the listing and the product photo may not show the same edition of the chart.
- Material, language and finish — none of these is stated in the listing; JLab will confirm them in the quotation.
- Kidney models — a sectioned kidney model on the same order shows the structures in three dimensions.
