What Is the Water Sampler Used For?

Water just below the surface of a lake or pond is often warmer, clearer and richer in oxygen than water a few metres down, so a proper survey needs samples from more than one depth. Students lower the sampler on its line to the depth they want, then give the line a sharp jerk to close it and trap the water at that level — no separate messenger weight is needed, which makes it simpler for a class to use than samplers that rely on one. The 1.75 litre sample is then poured into bottles for testing temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, nutrients or turbidity with the school’s water-testing kits. The sampler suits environmental science and geography fieldwork, college limnology and ecology practicals, and eco-club surveys of village ponds, tanks and reservoirs.

Use it in fresh water only — the listing states it must not be used in salt water. After each trip, rinse it with clean water, let it dry, and wind the line back onto its float before storage.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Number of samplers — the minimum order is 10; one per field group is a common plan.
  • Testing kits — add the dissolved oxygen, ponds and streams or water monitoring kits to analyse the samples.
  • Delivery details — destination city or port and any packing or labelling instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much water does the sampler hold?
1.75 litres, in an impact-resistant grey PVC body sealed with soft rubber seals.

How is the sampler closed at depth?
No messenger is needed. Lower it to the required depth and jerk the line sharply; the closing mechanism shuts and holds the sample.

What comes with it?
A 20 m line wound on a foam winding float.

Can it be used in the sea?
No. The specification says it should not be used in salt water, so keep it for ponds, lakes, rivers and reservoirs.

Is it suitable for students?
Yes. It is a plastic sampler intended for schools, with an impact-resistant body and a simple jerk-to-close action.

What is needed for an export quotation?
The quantity, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling requirements, and a tender reference if applicable.

Who makes the water sampler?
JLab, the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of field-study equipment, water-testing teaching kits and laboratory apparatus, incorporated in 2017 and located on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The sampler is made at JLab’s own works rather than traded, which means schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy it directly from its producer; each one is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders are supplied by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and has the capability to supply every region — Brunei in Southeast Asia, Burkina Faso in West Africa, the UK in Western Europe, Georgia in Eastern Europe and Lithuania in Northern Europe, for example. Tender buyers can visit the JLab lab tenders page.
