What Is the Cone Section Model Used For?

Conic sections are the curves formed where a plane cuts a cone: a cut parallel to the base gives a circle, an inclined cut through the whole cone an ellipse, a cut parallel to a slant side a parabola, and a steeper cut, for example parallel to the axis, a hyperbola. Taking a sectioned cone apart lets students see the real curved edge of each cut rather than a flat diagram, and links the equations of the parabola and hyperbola in class 11 coordinate geometry to where these curves come from. The frustum part also supports mensuration work on the volume and surface area of a frustum.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity of cone section models.
  • Whether the separate frustum or truncated cone models should be quoted as well.
  • Delivery location, plus any packing or labelling requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which sections does the model show?
Truncated, frustum, hyperbola and parabola sections, on a large cone made in 5 parts.

In which class are conic sections taught?
In the CBSE syllabus they are a chapter of class 11 maths, and they return in college coordinate geometry.

How does it differ from the frustum and truncated cone models?
This model brings truncated, frustum, hyperbola and parabola sections together in one 5-part cone. The 3-D Model of Frustum of Cone shows a cut parallel to the base, and the 3-D Model of Truncated Cone an angular cut at the top.

What is needed to quote for export?
The quantity, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling needs and any tender reference.

Who makes the model?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of maths lab equipment and laboratory teaching aids, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The cone section model is made at JLab’s own works, not supplied through a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order it directly from the manufacturer, each model is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders return to the same works. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Fiji in Oceania, Uganda in East Africa, Romania in Eastern Europe, Germany in Western Europe and South Africa in Southern Africa. Tender buyers can refer to the JLab lab tenders page.
