Heating Liquids in the Beaker
Stand the beaker on a wire gauze over a tripod rather than in the bare flame, so the heat spreads across the base. Borosilicate glass expands very little when heated, which is why it copes with heating better than soda-lime glass; even so, avoid sudden temperature shocks such as setting a hot beaker on a wet bench.
Using the Graduations
The graduations give an approximate volume for mixing and dilution. For an exact volume, measure it in a measuring cylinder or pipette and then pour it into the beaker.
