Mounting It on the Bench
The fixed base is secured near the edge of the worktable, so long bars and boards can hang clear of the top while they are sawn, planed or drilled. Set the jaws at a comfortable elbow height for filing. Work wider than the 4 inch opening needs a clamp instead.
Looking After the Jaws and Anvil
The knurled faces bite into stock and hold it steady, but they also mark soft or finished surfaces; slip folded aluminium or copper sheet over the jaws for such parts. Keep the main screw lightly oiled and free of filings. Use the anvil for bending and light forming rather than heavy sledge work.
