Using the 90° Blade Position
In its normal position the blade runs in line with the frame. Turned through 90°, the blade cuts while the frame stands off to one side, so a bolt or rod can be sawn off close to a surface and a long cut can run along a sheet without the back of the frame getting in the way.
Fitting the Blade and Sawing
Fit the blade with its teeth pointing away from the handle, since a hacksaw cuts on the push stroke, and tension it until it no longer flexes sideways. Hold the work in a vice, start the cut with light strokes, then use the full length of the blade at a steady pace. Blades wear with use and are changed when the teeth stop biting.
