What Is the Central Nervous System Microslide Used For?
The central nervous system is the brain and the spinal cord, and this set shows both together with the cells and nerves that connect them to the rest of the body. The mammal brain introduces the control centre; the human spine is the column of vertebrae that encloses and protects the spinal cord; and the grey matter of the cord is where the cell bodies of nerve cells are gathered. The neuron image shows the basic unit of the system, and the nerve shows how many nerve fibres are bundled together to carry impulses between the central nervous system and the body. The monkey eye and retina show the light-sensitive layer that sends signals to the brain along the optic nerve — the retina even develops as an outgrowth of the brain — and the sweat gland is an example of an organ that responds to nerve signals.
Teachers use the set for control and coordination and for the structure of the eye in class 10 science, and for neural control and coordination in class 11 biology; it also serves as a revision aid in college physiology and nursing courses. Students view each image through a Microslide Viewer, use the arrows and callouts to find the structure being discussed, and answer the questions in the text folder, which also holds the Microslide in its pocket between lessons.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.
- Microslide Viewers — add them if your school has none, as they are a separate item.
- Related Microslides — the reflex arc and nerve and muscle action sets cover the rest of the nervous system topic.
Frequently Asked Questions
What images does the Central Nervous System Microslide contain?
Eight: a mammal brain, a nerve, the human spine, the grey matter of the spinal cord, a monkey eye, the retina, a neuron and a sweat gland.
Why does a nervous system set include the eye?
The retina is the eye’s light-sensitive layer and is connected directly to the brain by the optic nerve, so it is often taught as part of the nervous system. A primate eye such as the monkey’s is very close in structure to the human eye.
Is a viewer needed to see the images?
Yes. The images are made for a Microslide Viewer, which JLab lists as a separate item; state in your enquiry whether you need viewers too.
Who supplies the Central Nervous System Microslide?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab), Ambala, Haryana, India, which resells this Microslide product and quotes for it directly with its own human biology range.
Supplier
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana, which equips school and college science laboratories. Together with the brain models, nervous system models and other biology apparatus in its own range, JLab resells Microslide sets, so a biology department can source a whole nervous system unit through one quotation; each set is checked visually before dispatch. The company holds GSTIN 06AADCJ9848D1ZE and Importer-Exporter Code 3317504552. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Fiji in Oceania, Sri Lanka in South Asia, Mexico in North America, Madagascar in East Africa and Belgium in Western Europe.
