  • Hair and fibres: cat hair, sheep hair, and a fibres slide of cotton, linen and hemp (w.m. — whole mount).
  • Plants: camellia leaf section, monocotyledonous stem of corn, pine tree pollen and fern spore.
  • Microscope practice: letter “e” (w.m.).

What Is the Common Interest Slide Set Used For?

It is a general-interest starter collection for school science, after-school clubs and anyone setting up a first microscopy corner. The letter “e” slide is the traditional first exercise: through a compound microscope the letter appears upside down and reversed, and it moves the opposite way when the slide is pushed, which teaches students how the instrument forms its image. From there the set moves to things children recognise — the many facets of a bee’s compound eye, the tiny overlapping scales that give a butterfly wing its colour, the vein patterns of different insect wings, and the difference between animal hair and plant fibres such as cotton, linen and hemp.

The corn stem and camellia leaf sections introduce plant anatomy; in a monocot stem such as corn the vascular bundles are scattered through the ground tissue, a feature studied in class 11 biology. Pine pollen and the fern spore show two different ways plants spread. As prepared microscope slides, the specimens are ready to view, so a whole class can use the same set lesson after lesson. Start every slide on low power, hold slides by the edges and return each one to its slot in the case.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Number of sets — minimum 10 units; many schools order one set per group of microscopes.
  • Follow-on sets — insect parts, pollen and spores, or botany sets from the same range extend the topics started here.
  • Microscopes and slide storage — quoted separately on the same enquiry.
  • Delivery details — destination country, port or city and any labelling requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the letter “e” slide for?
It shows how a compound microscope inverts the image. Students see the “e” upside down and reversed and notice that it moves in the opposite direction when they move the slide, which helps them learn to centre specimens.

How many insect slides does the set contain?
Twelve of the 20 slides are insect parts — bee, butterfly, cicada, locust and dragonfly specimens such as wings, legs, antennae, a compound eye, an abdomen and butterfly scales.

Are the slides glass?
Yes, all 20 are labelled glass slides kept in a slotted plastic case.

How is this set different from the Insect Parts set?
The Insect Parts Prepared Slide set is a smaller, insect-only set of 12 glass slides. The Common Interest set covers insects plus hair, fibres, pollen, a fern spore, plant sections and the letter “e”, so it suits a broader first course.

Is a microscope included?
No. This listing is the slide set in its case; JLab lists student microscopes separately, and any compound microscope with a light source or mirror can be used.

What does JLab need to prepare an export quotation?
The quantity, the destination country and port or city, preferred delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing or labelling instructions and a tender reference if one applies.

Who manufactures the Common Interest set?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and supplies it factory-direct.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of science teaching equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The company produces this slide set at its own works instead of reselling stock from a trader, which means schools, colleges, dealers and importers order straight from the manufacturer, each set is visually checked before dispatch, and replacement sets and repeat orders come from the same works. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example South Korea in East Asia, Madagascar in East Africa, DR Congo in Central Africa, the Philippines in Southeast Asia and Turkmenistan in Central Asia. Details for tender purchases are on the JLab lab tenders page.
