Compound Biological Microscope (code EL-CL-13510) is a metal-bodied monocular microscope with 4x, 10x and 40x achromatic objectives, wide-field 10x and 25x eyepieces and LED lighting from above and below, with adjustable brightness. Magnification With Each Lens Pair
Total magnification is the objective power multiplied by the eyepiece power. With the 10x eyepiece the three objectives give 40x, 100x and 400x; with the 25x eyepiece they give 100x, 250x and 1000x. Begin each slide on the 4x objective and 10x eyepiece, centre and focus the part of interest, then turn to the higher powers. The 25x eyepiece enlarges the image further but shows a smaller area of the slide.
Using the Top and Bottom Lights
The bottom LED shines up through the slide, which suits thin sections, smears and wet mounts. The top LED lights the specimen from above to show the surface of thicker or opaque objects, such as a seed or a small insect, that light cannot pass through. Keep the brightness low at low power and raise it for the 40x objective; the LED light stays cool on the stage.
