Sulphide Reactions in Salt Analysis
Dilute hydrochloric acid releases hydrogen sulphide from the salt, and the gas turns lead acetate paper black. In solution, sulphide ions give a violet colour with sodium nitroprusside, black precipitates with lead and copper(II) salts, and a white precipitate with zinc ions.
