What Is the Glass Rod Used For?
A glass rod mixes a solution without adding anything to it, which is why it is the standard stirrer in practicals that dissolve salts, sugars or stains, and in filtration work. During filtration the rod also guides liquid down into the filter funnel so that it does not splash, and it can carry a single drop of solution to indicator paper or a slide. The 300 mm length reaches the bottom of tall beakers and flasks. Stir gently without striking the glass wall, rinse the rod straight after use, and replace it if an end becomes chipped.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is borosilicate glass used for this rod?
Borosilicate glass expands very little when heated, so it copes with temperature changes and most laboratory chemicals better than ordinary soda-lime glass. That suits a rod that is moved between hot and cold solutions.
How does it differ from other JLab stirring rods?
This rod is borosilicate glass, 6 x 300 mm. The Stirring Rod Glass listing is a shorter soft-glass rod with rounded ends, and the Policeman Stirring Rods have flattened ends that double as small spatulas. Choose this one when you need length and heat resistance.
Is it sold singly or in packs?
It is sold individually, and the minimum order is 10 units. Orders usually leave within 7–10 working days after each rod is checked by eye; export transit time depends on the destination and shipping method.
Who manufactures this glass rod?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, and quotes for it directly as the manufacturer.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of borosilicate glassware and biology lab equipment in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This rod is produced at JLab’s own works and not sourced from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy it factory-direct, each piece is inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders come from the same maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Uruguay in South America, Indonesia in Southeast Asia, Ireland in Western Europe, Costa Rica in Central America and the Caribbean, and Uzbekistan in Central Asia.
