Getting a Blue Flame
With the air port closed the flame burns yellow and sooty. Opening the air regulator lets air mix with the gas and gives a hotter, steady blue flame. The air port is the only adjustment on the burner, so flame size is set at the gas tap. Have the lit match or lighter at the tube before turning the tap on.
Fitting the Gas Hose
Push rubber tubing well over the riffled connector; the ridges grip the hose so it stays on when the burner is moved. Check the tubing for cracks before each practical. The cast iron base keeps the burner steady on the bench.
