Preparing a Melting-Point Sample
Seal one end by turning it in the edge of a small flame, let it cool, then press the open end into the powdered solid and tap the tube so a little sample settles at the bottom. Fix the tube beside the thermometer bulb in the heating bath and watch for the moment the solid turns clear. The heat-resistant glass holds its shape while the bath warms.
