Keeping Rubber Stoppers Serviceable
Wash stoppers in warm soapy water after use and let them dry before storing them in a closed box, away from sunlight and heat, which harden rubber. Rubber copes with the dilute acids and alkalis of school work, but oils and organic solvents make it swell, so close solvent bottles with glass or plastic stoppers. Replace a stopper once it cracks or stops sealing.
