What Is a Fractional Weight Set Used For?
Gram weights take a beam balance most of the way to balance; the fractional weights then add the milligrams. With one each of most values and two of the 2 mg, 20 mg and 200 mg pieces, any value from 1 mg up to the total of the set can be put on the pan, which is what chemistry and physics students need when they weigh a primary standard, a small sample or a specimen for a density experiment. Aluminium is used because it is light: a milligram weight in aluminium is large enough to be picked up with forceps. Always handle the pieces with forceps, keep them in the case and do not breathe on or touch them, as moisture and skin oil change such small masses.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which weights are in the set?
Twelve aluminium weights from 1 mg to 500 mg, with duplicates of the 2 mg, 20 mg and 200 mg values, in a plastic case.
What accuracy class are the weights?
They are Quality Class B, and the listing states that they are calibrated within the error tolerance limits permitted by N.P.L. India (the National Physical Laboratory).
Do I need this set if I buy the A grade weight box?
The A grade analytical weight box already contains 1 mg to 500 mg wire weights, so this set is mainly for boxes that have lost their fractions or for balances bought without weights.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a laboratory weights, balances and science equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017, with its works on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The fractional weight sets are produced in-house rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers order directly from the manufacturer, and every set is inspected visually before it is packed. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Saudi Arabia in the Middle East, Morocco in North Africa, Zambia in East Africa, Greece in Southern Europe and Austria in Western Europe.
