Ganong Potometer Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : EL-ELA-5331
Jlab Export is a leading Ganong Potometer Manufacturer, and suppliers in India
Ganong Potometer (code EL-ELA-5331) is a plant physiology apparatus for measuring the rate at which a leafy shoot takes up water, used in transpiration practicals in school and college biology labs. A graduated narrow-bore glass tube links a vessel holding the plant shoot at one end with a funnel and glass stopcock at the other, and the apparatus comes complete with a wooden stand. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

What Is the Ganong Potometer Used For?
Most of the water a leafy shoot draws up is lost by transpiration, so the rate of uptake measured in a potometer is a practical stand-in for the transpiration rate. To set it up, the shoot is cut under water so no air enters its xylem and fitted airtight into the shoot vessel, the apparatus is filled with water, and a small air bubble is let into the graduated tube. The bubble moves along the tube as the shoot takes up water; timing it over a marked distance gives the rate, and opening the stopcock lets water from the funnel push the bubble back to the start for the next reading. Students then compare the rate in still air and in front of a fan, in light and dark, or at different temperatures — the transpiration topic in class 10 life processes and in college plant physiology practicals.
Seal the joints with a little petroleum jelly and rinse and drain the apparatus after use.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Ganong potometer measure?
The rate of water uptake by a leafy plant shoot, which closely follows the rate of transpiration.
What is the funnel with the stopcock for?
It is the water reservoir at the opposite end from the shoot. Opening the stopcock lets water in to reset the air bubble in the graduated tube between readings.
Is a stand included?
Yes, it comes complete with a wooden stand. Dimensions and graduation interval are confirmed with the quotation.
Who manufactures this potometer?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a biology lab equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The Ganong potometer is made at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy it factory-direct and replacement glassware or repeat orders are handled by the maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Sri Lanka in South Asia, Serbia in Southern Europe, Mexico in North America, Saudi Arabia in the Middle East and Rwanda in East Africa. For tenders, see the JLab lab tenders page.
