Heating a Sample in the Tube
Fill the tube no more than a third full and hold it in a test tube holder, tilted, with the mouth pointing away from everyone. Warm the upper part of the liquid first and then move the flame down while shaking the tube gently, so the liquid does not boil suddenly and spurt out. Let the tube cool in a stand before washing it.
