What Is the Human Nose LS Used For?
It helps explain why breathing and swallowing share part of the same route. Air drawn in through the nose passes back into the pharynx and then forward into the larynx and windpipe, while food from the mouth passes through the pharynx and back into the oesophagus, so the two pathways cross in the throat. On the model, the point where the two pathways cross can be shown to the class.
