Why must the load be spread evenly round the basket?
The basket is balanced statically and dynamically, but a lopsided load still throws it out of balance at speed. That makes the machine shake and wears the bearings and belts. Pack the load evenly round the wall and keep heavy items apart.
How long should a load spin?
For polyester, around 10 minutes gives water extraction of up to 95%. Cotton and viscose take around 15 minutes for up to 65%. Spinning much longer than that removes little more water.
What does the V-belt drive need?
Belt tension and wear should be checked from time to time. A slack belt slips, so the basket never reaches full speed and the load comes out wetter. Replace a cracked or glazed belt before it fails.
Why extract before tumble drying?
Spinning water out takes far less energy than evaporating it with hot air. A well extracted load spends less time in the tumbler, which saves heat and drum time.
