How Does It Compare with Other JLab Lenz's Law Apparatus?
| Apparatus | How it shows induction | Main listed parts |
|---|---|---|
| This apparatus (EL-SLE-5788) | Switched solenoid on a base, used with a soft steel rod | Copper-wire solenoid, switch, 4 mm terminals, soft steel rod; 12 V AC/DC, up to 6 A |
| Ring Thrower Lenz Law JLab | A ring is thrown off the core by induced eddy currents | Coil on an iron core in a clear acrylic cylinder, run from an AC source |
| Eddy Current Apparatus Lenz Law JLab | A strong magnet is passed through copper and plastic tubes inside a coil | Copper tube, plastic tube, coil on a bobbin with alligator clips, magnet, LEDs |
| Lenz Law - Open & closed loop | A magnet moves a complete loop but not a split loop | Complete and split loops |
Choose this apparatus when you want a switched, terminal-equipped solenoid that students wire to a low-voltage supply themselves; the ring thrower is a single dramatic demonstration, and the eddy-current tubes and loop sets show induction with a moving magnet and no power supply.
What Is the Lenz's Law Apparatus Used For?
Lenz's law states that an induced current always flows in the direction that opposes the change producing it. With this apparatus the solenoid is connected through its switch to a 12 V supply; closing or opening the switch makes the magnetic field change rapidly, and the soft steel rod placed in the coil strengthens that field while current flows and loses most of its magnetism when the current stops. A conductor or secondary coil placed in the changing field has a current induced in it whose direction opposes the change, which is the basis of the classic Lenz's law demonstrations taught under electromagnetic induction in class 12 physics and in first-year college electricity courses. Rings, secondary coils and meters are not listed with this apparatus, so confirm with JLab what you need for your chosen experiment.
Keep the supply at 12 V and the current within the 6 A maximum, switch off between observations so the winding does not run warm, and use leads with 4 mm plugs for secure connections. Store the soft steel rod away from permanent magnets so that it stays un-magnetized.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units.
- Experiment accessories — tell us which demonstration you plan so JLab can advise on rings, secondary coils or a galvanometer, which are separate items.
- Power supply — a 12 V AC/DC supply able to deliver up to 6 A is needed and can be added to the same enquiry.
- Connecting leads — leads with 4 mm plugs to match the terminals.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Lenz's law say?
The current induced by a changing magnetic field flows in the direction that opposes that change. It follows from conservation of energy and gives the direction of the current predicted by Faraday's law.
What power supply does the apparatus need?
A 12 V AC or DC supply that can deliver up to the 6 A maximum current of the solenoid. Connect it through the 4 mm terminals and use the built-in switch to turn the current on and off.
What is the soft steel rod for?
The rod, 150 x 10 mm and supplied un-magnetized, acts as a core inside the solenoid. Soft steel magnetizes strongly while current flows and loses most of that magnetism when it stops, which makes the changing field easier to observe.
Are rings, coils or meters included?
The listing covers the solenoid on its base with switch and terminals, and the soft steel rod. Other items for particular experiments are not listed here; ask JLab and add them to the same enquiry.
How does it differ from the Ring Thrower Lenz Law JLab?
The ring thrower is a single demonstration in which a coil on an iron core, inside an acrylic cylinder and run on AC, throws a ring upward. This apparatus is a switched solenoid with terminals and a separate soft steel rod for wiring into student circuits.
What details are needed for an export quotation?
Quantity, destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing or labelling instructions, and a tender reference if the order is for a tender.
Who manufactures this Lenz's law apparatus?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly as the manufacturer.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a physics apparatus and laboratory equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. This apparatus is wound and assembled at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy factory-direct, each unit is visually inspected before dispatch, and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer. The company holds MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 as a manufacturing enterprise and exports under Importer-Exporter Code 3317504552. JLab ships worldwide to buyers in every region — for example Peru in South America, Tonga in Oceania, Indonesia in Southeast Asia, Barbados in Central America and the Caribbean and Algeria in North Africa. Tender buyers can refer to the JLab lab tenders page.
