What Is the Magnascope Used For?
A magnascope sits on the bench and holds a large, low-power lens over the work with its own light, so the user looks through it with both eyes at a comfortable distance and keeps both hands free to turn, probe or cut the object. In biology labs it is used to examine insects, flowers, seeds and preserved specimens and to follow fine steps during dissection; in geography and geology lessons it shows the grains and crystals in rock and mineral samples; and in electronics labs and ITI workshops it helps with inspecting small components and solder joints. The 3.5x lens enlarges detail without the narrow field of a hand lens, and the ring-shaped tube lights the object from above with few shadows.
Place the object under the centre of the lens and adjust its distance from the lens until the image is sharp. Switch off and unplug the unit before cleaning it or changing the tube, and clean the optical glass only with a soft, dry lens cloth so that it is not scratched.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Mains supply — your voltage and plug type, so the lamp circuit suits your laboratory.
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; many labs place one magnascope per bench group.
- Spare tubes — ask JLab to quote spare 22 W circular tubes with the order if you want them on hand.
Frequently Asked Questions
What magnification does the magnascope give?
3.5x, through a 150 mm lens made of fine optical glass. That is low enough to see a whole small specimen at once while still showing detail the eye misses.
Why is the effective lens diameter smaller than the lens size?
The lens is 150 mm across, and 135 mm is the effective diameter — the clear area you actually look through once the edge of the lens is held in its mount.
What light source does it use?
A 22 W circular fluorescent tube of 216 mm diameter provides top illumination. The listing does not state the mains voltage, so give your supply details in the enquiry.
What is the body made of?
Aluminium and cast iron, finished in Siemens grey. The listing gives no further dimensions, so ask JLab if bench space or a tender drawing requires them.
What information is needed for an export quotation?
Send the quantity, destination country and port or city, preferred delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), your mains voltage and plug type, any packing or labelling needs, and the tender reference if there is one.
Who manufactures the magnascope?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, builds it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of optical and educational laboratory equipment, incorporated in 2017 with its base on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The magnascope is assembled at JLab’s own works instead of being bought in from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers deal with the maker directly, each unit is visually inspected before it is packed, and spare tubes or repeat orders come from the same source. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Libya in North Africa, El Salvador in Central America and the Caribbean, Afghanistan in South Asia, Albania in Southern Europe and Lesotho in Southern Africa. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
Magnifiers and Dissection Equipment
- Giant Magnifier 2X Magnification — a large magnifier on a folding stand for rock specimens and similar objects.
- Hand Magnifier — an illuminated handheld magnifier with a protective case for field work.
- Dissecting Microscope — a low-power microscope for observing specimens while they are dissected.
- Dissecting Kit — surgical steel instruments for plant and animal dissection under the lens.
