Magnetic Demagnetising Coil Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India

Magnetic Demagnetising Coil

Product Code : EL-SLE-4642
Jlab Export is a leading Magnetic Demagnetising Coil Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

Magnetic Demagnetising Coil (code EL-SLE-4642) is a low-voltage solenoid wound with insulated copper wire and mounted on a base, complete with a switch and 4 mm socket terminals. It is used in physics labs to magnetise and demagnetise ordinary magnets, iron bars and strips — for example to restore weakened school bar magnets or to show how a coil makes a magnet. It is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Magnetising Coils?

ModelSupplyListed details
This coil (EL-SLE-4642)Low voltageInsulated copper wire solenoid on a base; switch; 4 mm sockets
Magnetising and Demagnetising CoilLow voltageListed with the same construction: insulated copper wire solenoid on a base, switch and 4 mm sockets
Magnetizing and Demagnetizing Solenoid230 V mains310 mm DCC copper coil on a wooden board, turns marked, internal diameter about 25 mm; fuses, push switch, compass and a 350 x 10 mm soft iron rod

Choose this coil for student and teacher use from a low-voltage supply. The mains solenoid is a larger demonstration set that comes with its own compass and soft iron rod, and is meant for use on the mains supply, so it should be handled by the teacher.

What Is a Magnetising and Demagnetising Coil Used For?

When a current flows through a solenoid, the field inside it runs along the axis of the coil. Put a steel bar inside and pass a direct current briefly through the coil, and the bar is left magnetised, with its north pole at the end given by the right-hand grip rule (or the clock rule: current flowing anticlockwise, seen from that end, makes a north pole). Reverse the current and the poles reverse. This is a direct application of the class 10 chapter on the magnetic effects of electric current, and the same coil shows the class 12 difference between soft iron, which loses most of its magnetism when the current stops, and steel, which keeps it. Schools also use it to re-magnetise bar magnets that have weakened in storage.

To demagnetise, switch on an alternating current and draw the magnet slowly out of the coil and well away before switching off: the field reverses every half-cycle and dies away as the magnet leaves, so the magnet is left with no overall magnetism. The listing states that magnetising can also be done on A.C.; for a magnet of predictable polarity, use D.C. Keep each pulse short, because a low-voltage coil warms up if the current is left on, and never connect it to the mains.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 coils.
  • Supply — tell JLab what low-voltage A.C. and D.C. supply you have so the rated voltage and current can be confirmed.
  • Accessories — a DC power pack, plug key, plotting compasses and bar magnets can be added to the same enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can this coil magnetise and demagnetise?
Ordinary magnets, iron bars, strips and similar items that fit inside the solenoid. Ask JLab for the coil bore if you want to treat a particular magnet.

Should I use A.C. or D.C.?
Demagnetising needs A.C. only, with the magnet withdrawn slowly while the current flows. The listing allows A.C. or D.C. for magnetising, but D.C. gives a definite, repeatable polarity, so it is the usual choice in class.

What voltage does it need?
It is a low-voltage coil. The rated voltage and current are not given in this listing, so ask JLab before connecting a new supply, and do not use it on the mains.

How do I know which end becomes the north pole?
Use the right-hand grip rule: curl the fingers of your right hand in the direction of the current round the coil and your thumb points to the north pole. Check the result with a plotting compass.

How is it different from the mains magnetising solenoid?
This coil works on a low-voltage supply, with a switch and 4 mm sockets. The Magnetizing and Demagnetizing Solenoid is a 230 V mains set with fuses, a push switch, a compass and a soft iron rod.

Who manufactures this coil?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes directly as the manufacturer.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an electromagnetism and school physics equipment manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The coil is wound and assembled at JLab’s own works rather than bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy it factory-direct; each coil is inspected visually before dispatch, and repeat orders come straight from the maker. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Colombia in South America, Mexico in North America, Cyprus in Southern Europe, Georgia in Eastern Europe and Finland in Northern Europe. Tender details are on the JLab lab tenders page.
