Where the 50 ml Size Fits
It sits between a pipette and the 100 ml cylinder. Portions of a few tens of millilitres would need several pipette fills, while a larger cylinder spreads them over too little height to read closely; the 50 ml bore gives a clearer scale for that range.
Handling the Glass
Pour down the inside wall rather than straight onto the base, which cuts splashing and the bubbles that hide the meniscus. After use, rinse with water and stand the cylinder upside down to drain; it can also be autoclaved, and the borosilicate is highly resistant to chemical attack. With six flat sides on the foot, a cylinder that tips over cannot roll. Its graduations are calibrated at 27 °C and 20 °C.
