Which Slide Type Do You Need?

TypeSizeThickness
Standard76 x 26 mm0.8–1 mm
.01 75 x 25 mm2 mm
.02 75 x 25 mm1.35 mm
.03 75 x 25 mm1.25 mm
.04 75 x 25 mm1.15 mm
.05 75 x 25 mm0.9–1 mm
.06 75 x 25 mm1.35 mm (same as .02 in the listing — ask JLab how they differ)

Thicker slides, such as the 2 mm type, are sturdier for repeated handling by students; the thinner types are close to the usual slide thickness. Quote the type number in your enquiry.

What Are Microscope Slides Used For?

A slide holds the specimen flat and steady on the microscope stage. In class 9, students make temporary mounts of onion peel and human cheek cells on plain slides to see cell walls, nuclei and membranes, and in class 10 they mount a leaf peel to study stomata. College and university labs use the same slides for stained preparations, blood smears in teaching practicals and plant and animal tissue sections.

To make a temporary mount, place a drop of water or stain in the centre of a clean slide, lay the specimen in it, and lower a cover slip at an angle with a needle so that no air bubbles are trapped. Hold slides by the edges, wash and dry them after use, and store them in a slide box so the surfaces stay unscratched.

What to Specify When Ordering

  • Type — the standard 76 x 26 mm slide or one of types .01 to .06, quoting the thickness you need.
  • Quantity — the minimum order is 10 units; ask JLab how the slides are packed for larger class orders.
  • Cover slips and storage — add cover slips and a slide box to the same enquiry.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size are these microscope slides?
The standard slide is 76 x 26 mm and 0.8–1 mm thick. Types .01 to .06 are 75 x 25 mm, with thicknesses from 0.9 mm up to 2 mm.

Which thickness should a school choose?
The standard 0.8–1 mm slide suits everyday class work. A thicker type is sturdier if slides will be handled and washed many times by students.

What is the difference between types .02 and .06?
Both are listed as 75 x 25 mm and 1.35 mm thick, and the listing gives no other difference. Ask JLab to confirm before ordering either type.

Are the edges ground and is there a frosted writing area?
The listing does not say. Tell JLab if you need ground edges or a frosted end for labelling, and the quotation will confirm what is supplied.

Are cover slips included?
No, cover slips are separate items, linked below, and can be ordered together with the slides.

What details are needed for an export quotation?
The slide type and quantity, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, any packing or labelling needs, and the tender reference if relevant.

Who manufactures these slides?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes them in Ambala, Haryana, and quotes for them as the manufacturer.

OEM Manufacturer

JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an Indian manufacturer of biology and microscopy supplies for teaching labs, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The company’s CIN is U29309HR2017PTC069123, and it holds MSME Udyam registration UDYAM-HR-01-0003849 as a manufacturing enterprise.
