What Is the Milli Ammeter Used For?
A milliampere is a thousandth of an ampere, so a milliammeter reads currents too small to show clearly on an ordinary ammeter. It is connected in series with the part being tested. Typical uses are LED and diode circuits, transistor and photocell experiments, and the forward-bias readings in the class 12 physics practical on the characteristics of a p–n junction diode; the much smaller reverse current in that experiment needs a microammeter or a sensitive galvanometer instead. Start on the highest range when the current is unknown, and never connect the meter directly across a power supply.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Range — state the full-scale current you need and whether the circuit is AC or DC.
- Meter type — analogue or digital, desk-stand or panel, if your lab has a preference.
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 meters.
Frequently Asked Questions
What range does this milliammeter cover?
The listing gives the milliampere range in general but not a full-scale value. State the range you need, and JLab will confirm it in the quotation.
Can it measure microamperes?
Currents of a few microamperes are better read on a microammeter or a sensitive centre-zero galvanometer, such as the one linked below, because they barely move a milliammeter.
Who manufactures this meter?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, an electrical and physics laboratory instrument manufacturer in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The milliammeter is built at JLab’s own works rather than sourced from a trader, so colleges, schools, dealers and importers buy factory-direct and each meter is inspected before dispatch. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Afghanistan in South Asia, Uzbekistan in Central Asia, Madagascar in East Africa, the UAE in the Middle East and Slovenia in Southern Europe. Tender information is on the JLab lab tenders page.
