How Does It Compare with Other JLab Buchner Funnels?
| Model | Construction | Sizes and other details |
|---|---|---|
| This funnel (EL-LS-5098) | Porcelain; fixed perforated plate; glazed inside and out except the rim | Glaze does not soften up to 1000 °C; resists acids and alkalis except hydrofluoric acid; batch heat tested |
| Buchner Funnel Porcelain Deluxe | Deluxe quality porcelain, stoutly made; glazed inside and out except the rim | 110 mm inner diameter for 110 mm filter paper; about 600 ml capacity |
| Buchner Funnel | Glazed porcelain, one-piece, fixed perforated plate; straight sides with tapered stem | Nine sizes from 42.5 mm to 150 mm |
Choose this funnel when chemical and heat resistance of the porcelain and glaze matter most; the deluxe model suits buyers who want a 110 mm funnel, and the standard Buchner Funnel range covers small to large filter papers.
What Is the Porcelain Buchner Funnel Used For?
A Buchner funnel is used for vacuum (suction) filtration. A filter paper laid on the perforated plate covers the holes, the funnel sits in the neck of a filter flask, and suction from a pump draws the liquid through quickly, leaving the solid on the paper. Laboratories use it to collect crystals and precipitates, to separate solids from reaction mixtures and to wash and partly dry a product on the filter, in college and university chemistry labs, pharmaceutical and quality-control labs and research work.
Porcelain is chosen for this job because it stands up to most acids, alkalis and hot solutions. Hydrofluoric acid attacks the glazed surface, so this funnel should not be used with it.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Funnel size or filter paper diameter you work with.
- Quantity and delivery location.
- Filter flasks, adapter cones or filter paper to quote on the same enquiry.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a porcelain Buchner funnel used for?
Vacuum filtration: the funnel holds a filter paper on its perforated plate over a filter flask, and suction pulls the liquid through, leaving the solid behind.
Is the perforated plate removable?
No. The perforated plate is fixed, formed as part of the funnel.
Which chemicals can it be used with?
The porcelain has excellent resistance to acids and alkalis. The exception is hydrofluoric acid, which attacks porcelain and glaze.
How heat resistant is the glaze?
The glaze does not soften at temperatures up to 1000 °C, and every batch of porcelain is heat tested at the works.
How does it differ from the Buchner Funnel Porcelain Deluxe?
Both are glazed porcelain funnels with the rim unglazed. The deluxe model has a 110 mm inner diameter and holds about 600 ml; this funnel is specified for its white glaze that does not soften up to 1000 °C and its resistance to acids and alkalis.
What information is needed for an export quotation?
Send the size and quantity, the destination country and port or city, your delivery terms (for example FOB or CIF), any packing or labelling requirements and a tender reference if applicable.
Who manufactures the Porcelain Buchner Funnel?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, trading as JLab, makes it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India, and quotes for it directly as the manufacturer.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a manufacturer of porcelain ware, glassware and laboratory supplies in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The funnels are made at JLab’s own works rather than bought in from a trader, so colleges, laboratories, dealers and importers buy them factory-direct, every batch of porcelain is heat tested, and repeat orders are handled by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Moldova in Eastern Europe, Rwanda in East Africa, Gambia in West Africa, Botswana in Southern Africa and Tonga in Oceania. For tender enquiries, see the JLab lab tenders page.
