Respiration Pump Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India

Respiration Pump

Product Code : EL-RP-2381
Jlab Export is a leading Respiration Pump Manufacturer, and suppliers in India

A respiration pump ventilates the lungs of a laboratory animal when its own breathing stops or the chest is open during a physiology or pharmacology experiment. This one is a single-cylinder, all-metal pump with a mechanically operated valve. Its stroke is adjustable and graduated up to 250 cc, and a 0.25 HP motor on a castor-wheeled base drives it.

Teaching Experiments in Physiology and Pharmacology

The pump belongs to the classic demonstration of drug effects on blood pressure and breathing in an anaesthetised animal. The animal lies on a Brodie Operating Table, and the pressure trace is written on a Brodie Starling Kymograph. The pump takes over when a drug or an open chest stops the animal’s own breathing.

Institutions run such experiments under the approval of their animal ethics committee, and many courses now use simulations or recorded traces alongside them. Without an animal, students can still work out minute volume from the stroke setting and the rate. They can also see how moving the belt to another cone slot changes the rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the volume of each breath set?
The piston stroke is adjustable, with a scale graduated up to 250 cc. Set it to the volume in the department’s protocol for the animal in use before the pump is connected, and check it again after any change.

How do I change the breathing rate?
The driving cone has three belt slots of 6, 9 and 12 in diameter. Moving the belt to a different slot changes the speed ratio between motor and pump, and with it the number of strokes per minute.

What does the valve do?
The valve is worked mechanically by the pump itself. On each stroke it lets the cylinder fill and then sends the air out to the animal, so inflation keeps time with the piston without any separate control.

What power supply does it need?
The 0.25 HP motor runs on 220 V AC, 50 Hz, single phase. Motor and pump sit together on an adjustable base with castor wheels, so the unit can be wheeled up to the operating table.

Why is artificial ventilation needed once the chest is opened?
Opening the chest lets air into the pleural space. The lungs then collapse and the animal can no longer draw air in by itself. A pump pushing air in under positive pressure keeps the lungs inflating and the blood oxygenated.
