What Is a Siphon Pump Used For?
A siphon pump primes a transfer tube by hand, so liquid can be drawn out of a large container without tipping it and without anyone sucking on the tube — a practice that lab safety rules forbid. Labs use it to fill wash bottles and beakers from carboys of distilled water, to empty water baths, aquarium tanks and ripple tanks, and to move oils and other liquids between containers. In physics lessons it also shows the siphon principle in action: once the tube is full, liquid keeps flowing by gravity as long as the outlet stays below the liquid surface in the source container.
Place the receiving container lower than the source, pump a few strokes until the liquid runs, and lift the outlet above the source level to stop the flow. Because the pump body is plastic, check with JLab before using it for organic solvents, strong acids or hot liquids, and rinse it with clean water after each use.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — pumps are sold individually with a minimum order of 10 units.
- Liquids to be transferred — water, oils or solutions, so JLab can confirm the plastic suits them.
- Containers — carboys, aspirator bottles or tubing to complete a dispensing set-up.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does the siphon pump work?
A few strokes of the pump fill the tube with liquid; after that, gravity keeps the liquid flowing into the lower container for as long as the outlet stays below the level of the liquid being emptied.
What size is it?
The listing gives a standard size without dimensions. Ask JLab for the tube length and diameter if they matter for your containers.
Can it be used with chemicals?
The pump is plastic and the listing names no chemical rating, so describe the liquids you plan to move — especially solvents, acids or hot liquids — and JLab will advise.
What should I send for an export quotation?
Quantity, destination country and port or city, preferred delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling needs and any tender reference.
Who makes the siphon pump?
JLab (Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd) manufactures it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a maker of school lab equipment and laboratory plasticware in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The siphon pump comes from JLab’s own works rather than a trading house, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy factory-direct, each pump is visually checked before dispatch, and repeat orders are supplied by the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Canada in North America, Hong Kong in East Asia, the Gambia in West Africa, the UAE in the Middle East and Belgium in Western Europe. For tenders, see the JLab lab tenders page.
