Sonometer Manufacturer,Supplier and Exporter in India
Product Code : EL-SLE-4730
Jlab Export is a leading Sonometer Manufacturer, and suppliers in India
Sonometer (code EL-SLE-4730) is a physics apparatus for studying the vibration modes of a stretched string: a string is stretched over a hollow box with two holes, and students set it vibrating to investigate how pitch depends on length and tension. It is used for the sonometer experiments in senior-school and college physics labs. The sonometer is made by Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd (JLab) at its works in Ambala, India.

How Does It Compare with Other JLab Sonometers?
| Model | Box | Tension and wires as listed |
|---|---|---|
| This sonometer (EL-SLE-4730) | Hollow box with two holes | One stretched string; tensioning method not stated |
| Simple Pattern Sonometer | Wooden resonance box | Two steel wires tensioned by two spring balances; three bridges supplied |
| 3 Wire Pattern Sonometer | Hollow wooden resonance box with millimetre scales between fixed bridges | Wires over fixed bridges, one wire loaded over a pulley, spring balance with wingnut fine adjustment |
Choose this sonometer for the basic stretched-string practicals. The spring-balance patterns suit labs that want to read tension directly, and the three-wire pattern allows a loaded wire and fixed wires to be compared on one box.
What Is a Sonometer Used For?
A stretched string fixed at both ends vibrates transversely: each part of the string moves at right angles to its length, and standing waves form between the two supports. With a sonometer students verify the laws of transverse vibration of strings — the frequency falls as the vibrating length increases, rises with the square root of the tension, and falls as the string gets heavier per unit length. In CBSE class 11 physics practicals it is used to study the relation between frequency and length of a given wire under constant tension, and the relation between length and tension at constant frequency. The hollow box and its holes act as a sound box, so the enclosed air vibrates with the string and makes the note louder.
In a typical run, a tuning fork is struck and its stem pressed on the box while a small paper rider sits on the middle of the wire; the bridge is moved until the rider is thrown off, which marks resonance between the fork and the string. Repeat with forks of other frequencies, or with different loads, and plot the results. Keep the wire under only the tension the experiment needs, release it after use, and check it for kinks before each class.
What to Specify When Ordering
- Quantity — the minimum order is 10 sonometers.
- Accessories — ask which bridges, weights, hanger or pulley come with this model and list any extras you need.
- Tuning forks — a set of forks is needed for the frequency experiments and can be quoted together.
- Spare wire — mention if you want spare strings for replacement.
Frequently Asked Questions
What experiments are done with a sonometer?
Verifying the laws of transverse vibration of a stretched string — how frequency depends on vibrating length, tension and mass per unit length — and finding the frequency of an unknown tuning fork by resonance.
Why does the sonometer box have holes?
The hollow box works as a sound box. The holes let the air inside vibrate with the string and with the outside air, so the note is louder and easier to hear at resonance.
Are tuning forks and weights included?
The listing describes the hollow box and string only. Ask JLab which accessories are supplied with this model; tuning forks are a separate JLab item.
What kind of vibrations does the string make?
Transverse vibrations: the string moves at right angles to its length, forming standing waves with nodes at the bridges and an antinode between them in the fundamental mode.
How is resonance detected?
A light paper rider is placed at the middle of the vibrating length. When the string’s natural frequency matches the tuning fork, the string vibrates strongly and throws the rider off.
What do I need to send for an export quotation?
The quantity and any accessories, the destination country and port or city, delivery terms such as FOB or CIF, packing or labelling requirements and a tender reference where relevant.
Who manufactures the sonometer?
Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, known as JLab, manufactures it at its works in Ambala, Haryana, India.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab is the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd, a physics instruments manufacturer and school lab equipment maker in India, incorporated in 2017 and based on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. The sonometer is built at JLab’s own works, not bought from a trader, so schools, colleges, dealers and importers buy factory-direct, every instrument is visually inspected before dispatch, and spare strings and repeat orders come from the manufacturer. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Norway in Northern Europe, Kazakhstan in Central Asia, Hong Kong in East Asia, Sudan in North Africa and Switzerland in Western Europe. Institutions buying through tenders can see the JLab lab tenders page.
