From Pre-Grinding to Polishing
A metallographic sample passes through pre-grinding and pre-polishing before the final stages: 230 mm abrasive papers in successively finer grits flatten the face, and a polishing cloth with fine alumina or diamond abrasive then brings it to a scratch-free mirror finish, ready for etching. Meanwhile the grinding head turns at 20–120 rpm under adjustable cylinder pressure, with 0.2–0.3 MPa as the recommended setting.
