What Is the Student Spirometer Used For?
Vital capacity is the maximum volume of air a person can breathe out after taking the deepest possible breath, and it is one of the respiratory volumes studied in the class 11 biology chapter on breathing and exchange of gases and in college physiology. With water in the spirometer, a student breathes out through the mouthpiece and corrugated tube, the float rises against its counterbalance, and the volume is read from the calibrated pulley; the recording lever can trace the movement on a recording drum, which is not part of this listing.
