Tracing on a Lit Surface
The original is laid on the translucent top and a sheet of tracing paper or drafting film is fixed over it before the lamp is switched on. Light coming up through both sheets makes the lines underneath stand out, so they can be copied in pencil or ink without marking the original. The translucent plastic diffuses the lamp light across the working area.
