Setting Up to Heat Glassware
Lay a wire gauze across the triangular top before standing glassware on it: the gauze spreads the heat over the base of the vessel instead of concentrating the flame on one spot, which helps keep the glass from cracking. Adjust the burner so the tip of the inner flame sits just below the gauze.
Because the legs splay outwards, the stand covers a wider base and is harder to tip over when a full vessel sits on top. The top stays hot for some time after heating, so let it cool before moving the tripod.
