How Does It Compare with the JLab Plate Boundary Models?
| Model | What it covers |
|---|---|
| This model (EL-ERAM-4437) | The whole cycle on one board: spreading at the mid-ocean ridge, subduction zones and the continents |
| Divergent Plate Boundaries Model | Constructive boundaries where plates drift apart and new crust forms |
| Convergent Plate Boundaries Model | Destructive boundaries where plates collide; magma generated at subduction zones |
| Transform Plate Boundaries Model | Plates sliding horizontally past each other on strike-slip faults |
Use this wall model for the overview and the single-boundary models for close study of each boundary type.
What Is the Restless Earth Model Used For?
The ocean floor is not permanent. At a mid-ocean ridge, magma rises and forms new oceanic crust that moves outward on both sides; where oceanic crust meets another plate it sinks back into the mantle at a subduction zone, marked by deep trenches, earthquakes and volcanoes. This continual renewal is why the Earth is called restless, and it explains why continents drift. The model supports the continental drift, sea-floor spreading and plate tectonics topics of class 11 physical geography and college geology, and teachers can draw plate-movement arrows on the washable surface.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Restless Earth model show?
Sea-floor spreading of the crust, subduction zones, the continents and the mid-ocean ridge, on a 70 x 100 cm board.
What is sea-floor spreading?
It is the formation of new oceanic crust at mid-ocean ridges, which then moves away from the ridge on both sides; older crust is consumed at subduction zones.
OEM Manufacturer
JLab — the trading name of Jain Laboratory Instruments Pvt Ltd — was incorporated in 2017 and manufactures school and college science equipment, including earth science models, on Hargolal Road, Ambala, Haryana. It makes this model in-house rather than reselling it, so buyers from schools, colleges, dealers and importers receive manufacturer quotations and consistent repeat supply. JLab exports worldwide and ships to buyers in every region — for example Belize in Central America and the Caribbean, Lithuania in Northern Europe, Samoa in Oceania, Bolivia in South America and Oman in the Middle East.
