Where the Thread Is Used
For a simple pendulum, tie the bob on and measure the length from the point of suspension to the centre of the bob; the period follows T = 2π√(l/g), so a longer thread gives a slower swing. The same thread makes a plumb line for finding the centre of gravity of a flat plate, and a light cord for small loads over a pulley. White thread stands out against a dark board, so the line is easy to sight.
